More on Varshan Sookhun

About Varshan: I have twenty years of professional broadcasting behind me - a passionate journey which began at the KZN based community station Radio Phoenix in 1998

I made the transition from Community Radio to Public Broadcaster Lotus FM in 2001, joining the national broadcaster (87.7 -106.8) as the producer / presenter of the Bollywood Billboard before going on to present the breezy lifestyle-oriented program ‘Midday Spice’.

I have nurtured a rather extensive portfolio within the Bollywood industry and have compeered several international concerts in Durban and Johannesburg including the Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam Nite, Kunal Ganjawala, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan in Concert, Indian Idols Concerts featuring ZEE TV Serial Actors Prachi Desai, Sushant Singh, Ankita Lokhande and Avinash Sachdev (Choti Bahu).

In 2009,  I tried my hand at professional theatre with an acting appearance as ‘reality show host’ in the Bollywood stage production Chalo Cinema 4.  This was followed with a cameo dancing role in Dance With Me Baby Again (Suncoast, Durban). I wrote my first ever full length theatrical script for the Bollywood adaptation of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, staged at Suncoast, Durban in September 2010. Also credited for conceptualizing and directing the much acclaimed fashion fundraiser event ‘Fifty Shades of Black’, hosted for charity in May 2014.

A self-proclaimed fashion enthusiast and lifestyle specialist, I play an integral role in promoting local talent in performing arts, design and movies.  In the past, I have interacted with a flattering number of icons from the entertainment fraternity. They include: Riaad Moosa, Janez Vermeiren, Arno Carstens, John Vlismas, Evita Bezuidenhout, Danny K, Shaleen Surtie Richards and International medical expert DR OZ.

Over the past decade, I have contributed to the local print media as a freelance Bollywood columnist and entertainment critic. My articles have featured in The Daily News, The Sunday Tribune, Post, The Rising Sun and Impressions Magazine.

As Master Of Ceremonies, I make regular appearances at weddings, parties and corporate events.
