More about Omeshnie

About Omeshnie: My track record as a lifestyle content editor spans the print and digital platforms of the Daily News, The Mercury, The Mercury Goodlife supplement, the Sunday Tribune Sunday Mag, as well as the lifestyle pages of The Star, Cape Times and Cape Argus.

Career highlights include writing a Society column for The Mercury for about seven years; joining the national business unit for lifestyle at Independent Media as a Senior Lifestyle Executive in 2016 and concurrently being appointed National Family Editor for IOL.

I consider myself an excellent curator of content and am most proud of being appointed content editor of the 28 page-weekly supplement called Affluence, which appeared in The Independent on Saturday, Saturday Star, Pretoria News Weekend and Weekend Argus.

Radio Experience And Progression: As a varsity student, I hosted a Saturday morning Bollywood show on a community radio station. Producing the award-winning show Walk the Talk with the inimitable Alan Khan is a privilege.

In my career I have interviewed the likes of Priety Zinta, AR Rahman and Sonu Nigam but believe in the extraordinary power of giving voice to the ordinary man.

Qualifications: I double majored at the then University of Natal and qualified with an Honours degree in Cultural Communications and Media Studies as well as English.

I have a Mapp-Seta qualification in Sub-editing from Independent Newspapers and I studied photography at UKZN.

I also have a Digital Media Practitioner Diploma in Business, Management and Marketing from the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishing (WAN IFRA).

Accomplishments: A Bharata Natyam dancer eager to show off my choreography skills, I once entered and was placed in the Miss India KZN pageant. I was also a ‘face of Carducci’ finalist. However, as a lifestyle editor, front row at South African Fashion Week and photographing millionaire mansions, I became so astute to fashion and decor, that I soon traded the role of contestant for judge at events such as Miss South Africa KwaZulu-Natal, Vodacom Durban July Young Designer and the House and Garden Show.

Hobbies: Oil painting, interior design, fashion, reading and music are among my favourite distractions.

General Facts: I’m a Durban girl at heart. I’m married to Dhivan and I have two sons, Vittal and Keshav.
