About Bhai Azad : He hails from a humble background is currently a distinguished presenter of the Qawali Hour Programme which is broadcasted between 9pm and 10pm every Sunday on the airwaves of Lotus fm. This predominantly music based programme features artists from the local and the international sphere. In South Africa, Qawali comprises devotional Sufi articulate renditions, a musical genre that dates back to more than 800 years. Invariably Bhai Azad is classified as a prominent vocalist; musician and Urdu poet who is of the view that Urdu is one of the classical Indian dialects in the country. In addition to his credentials, he has authored a book on Urdu poetry entitled “Gulzar-e-Sukhan” which contains his original prolific lyrics.


Radio Experience & Progression: He has 11 years of Radio experience in total. For over 3 decades in this country Bhai Azad has been a passionate Master of Ceremonies at various religious institutions, social gatherings and other public functions. On various occasions Bhai Azad has rendered naath, munqabaths and other devotional items locally as well as in the precincts of the sacred shrines of esteemed saints in the Indo-Pak Subcontinent. To his advantage he has invested in a massive collection of CDS, DVDS and other related relics.He also is a recording artist of Quawali and Naaths.

Qualifications: Bhai Azad graduated in 1974 at UNISA with a Degree in Accounting and presently is a successful businessman in the capacity of Director of Zada Bricktiles cc and Behzaad Properties cc.  

Hobbies: Music, business enthusiast , travel (visited india 44 times, Pakistan 35 times, Holy Shrines of Saudi Arabia (Mecca and Medina) 24times)  , writing poetry, musician (plays harmoniam and thabla) 

General Facts: His spouse, Shaheda Begum is originally from India and as a result the lingua-franca of their home is Urdu. They have four sons in the family. He also has vast collection of Ghazals , Quawali, Bhajans etc
