FACT FILE At 24, Varshan Sookhun has had seven years ofbroadcasting behind him, starting the radio experience on the KZN based community station in 1998 as a programme producer and day-time presenter. He grew from a community household name to a national one, when in 2001 he joined LotusFM (87.7 – 106.8) as the producer / presenter of the Bollywood Chart Show (Ster Kinekor). Ever since, Varshan has nurtured an invaluable portfolio within the bollywood industry, as host to several international concerts in Durban, including the Kumar Sanu and Sonu Nigam Nite; and has interviewed the biggest personalities within the entertainment fraternity, with South African likes such as Paul Vivian to Minki van der Westhuizen, Brumilata van Rensburg, Danny K, and Shaleen Surtie Richards. Bollywood celebrities include Amitabh Bachan, Sharukh Khan, Waheeda Rehman, Zayed Khan, Subash Ghai, Shilpa Shetty, John Abraham, Arjun Rampal, Abhishek Bachan and Oscar nominated director Ashutosh Gwariker. As a journalist, Varshan has covered the glittery IIFA Awards in Singapore and Sun City, exclusively for print and electronic media and has done stints for SABC’s Newsbreak, establishing a bollywood column for local tabloids such as The Rising Sun and Tabloid Newspaper. This certified television and film production graduate has a keen interest in arts and his initial project “A New Day has Come” (a 15-minute short film was selected for screening at the 10 years of democracy festival at Suncoast Casino in Durban in May 2004. |
